A little overdone, but still very very good. My new favorite way of cooking potatoes – in a covered pan for 15 mins.

The peice of iron on the right-hand grill is to hold the cover in place, as it doesn’t fit very well. (It’s a very, very old grill!)

they were giving it away. it was all covered with dust and filled with ashes.
we had to replaced some rusty parts (inside helix and stuff), clean, and polish it quite a bit until it started feeling at home again =)

I have swung the grill around so the front faces the sunroom. I figure I can be cooking outside and still part of what is going on inside. Grill, BTW, is a Ducane Gas Grills. I love it…

A different approach for cooking a large steak. Cook indirect till until about 90 degrees and then sear.

I’ve been doing a lot of grilling lately with my new tabletop charcoal grill, but at my parents’ apartment I was in charge of grilling chicken on their gas grill. Let’s just say I’m doing a better job with the charcoal grill at home than I did with the gas grill. This photo was taken by Tim.

Gas + charcoal BBQ – Sydney Madang Restaurant
gas grills reviews
Perhaps part of the attraction here is the presence of a charcoal barbecue to give the meats a smokey flavour. To speed up the process, the gas flame was used to start the coals burning. Ingenious!

As a Melbournite, we’re used to having great food and drink in tiny laneways and other hidden secrets that you smugly keep to youself. So it was quite a surprise to find this little gem down a dodgy laneway off Pitt Street in flashy Sydney.

The queues outside, so common at Sydney’s more popular hangouts was here as well. A sign of good food ahead!

Apart from the more typical barbeque fare, there are hotpots that we would have loved to have tried but unfeasible with just two of us dining.

Grill Pizza Review

New FibraMent-D pizza stone for the grill made good pizzas, see photos below. In 20-30 minutes preheat on the gas grill, the temp. was 400+F. I started the first of 3 pizzas, each cooked about 12-15 minutes. The temperature was 525F by the 3rd pizza. The difference from an oven pizza is that the crust bottom was very cooked, yet the veggies on top were not totally crispy. Tasted GREAT anyhow. The photos below should give an idea of the way #3 cooked.

Healdsburg Bar and Grill

We stopped briefly in Geyserville to check out the River Rock Casino. (Notice how there are no pictures on their website of the casino? It’s because the casino is in a tent.) I was getting hungry, and using Yelp I found a promising pizza place in Geyserville on the way back to 101 from the casino. The map placed the pinpoint outside of the "downtown" part of Geyserville, and when we got there there was nothing but trees. (I’m not crazy either–compare the map on Yelp with the somewhat more reasonable Google Maps map.) Since we were running low on gas, we decided to just keep driving and get lunch in Healdsburg.

Once in Healdsburg, Yelp led us astray once again. After finding a restaurant with great reviews, we arrived to find they only served dinner. After wandering around a bit more, growing hungrier by the minute, we stumbled upon Healdsburg Bar and Grill. The menu seemed decent, so we went in. It turned out not to be the best decision. We should have suspected given we had a 5-10 minute wait even though the room was nearly half empty… apparently there was some drama going on. Once we were seated, it took a very long time before anyone even took our drink order–we were just about to get up and leave when someone finally showed up. Once the food came, it looked good, but it was pretty mediocre; the burgers at work are more flavorful than this one.

When Jaime was visiting and we were down in Cambria, she said that a restaurant with "Grill" in its name in a touristy area is usually not worth going to. In that case, we ended up in the Main Street Grill anyway, and the food was actually pretty good. In this case, I wish we had heeded it.
